Commuter Life

Commuter Life

Commuter Life serves the undergraduate commuter population through assessing student needs, developing "commuter friendly" programs and services, managing the Collegium (a home-away-from-home for commuters), and supporting and collaborating with the AS Commuter Senators.

Commuter FAQ

Where Can I Put My Stuff?
There are a limited number of lockers available in Sutherland Hall; you supply the lock. Reserve lockers in the Office of Commuter Life; no fee, first come first serve, reserved on a semester-by-semester basis.

Where Do I Park?
Commuters can park in any blue-marked space in any lot except F (faculty/staff). There are no lots reserved just for commuters or residents. All vehicles parking on Biola property must have Biola parking permits. For more information, check the Biola Campus Safety site.

Where can a commuter find a fridge or microwave?
The only accessible refrigerator requires membership in the Commuter Collegium, located in the upper SUB above Common Grounds. There are microwaves located in the Eagles' Nest and the Library snack area.

How Do I Find A Place?
There is a list of rental opportunities listed with the Auxiliary Services office, in the Student Services building (across from the Gym). There is also a "Housing" board in BUBBS (Conferences > Classifieds > Housing).

What Should I Know Before Renting?
Renting a place to live is a major step, and there are lots of different issues: financial, legal, interpersonal, etc. Several universities and other organizations have put together useful resources for helping your rental situation be a success, whether you're in a house or an apartment, by yourself or with others. Welcome to the Department of Commuter Life

Did you know that almost one-third of our traditional undergraduate population commutes to campus? Some commuters drive more than an hour to campus, coming from places like Vista, San Bernardino and Echo Park.

The Department of Commuter Life was brand new in Fall 2004 and is comprised of a Director, a Coordinator, three Commuter Assistants, numerous volunteers, and two AS Commuter Senators. Together we are working as a team to build new services for you. Our Mission is:

"to foster greater community connections between traditional undergraduate students, the University, and the student body at large, as well as to create a network of resources, support, and accountability, designed to encourage growth toward spiritual maturity."

With our Collegium program now entering its fourth year, our next efforts will be placed on developing better representation for all commuters through our AS Senators as well as partnering with other departments to offer better information flow and services for you.

We invite your feedback and questions. Focus groups will be formed this fall to provide us with accurate first-hand information for further program development. If you are interested in becoming a part of one of our focus groups, please send a BUBBS message to Katie Tuttle.

In His Service,

Dr. Katie Tuttle
Director of Commuter Life
