Nesting Hawks Swooping on Pedestrians
If you're walking near the School of Business or the McNally campus, keep your head up.

Brian Phillips, Director of Facilities Services, reports that "As many as five hawks have been observed in the trees near south campus. Facilities Services has also received one report of several hawks swooping down towards a person in an aggressive manner. Hawks have been known to exhibit territorial behavior during their nesting season. The birds have been observed in the trees between White and Rood Hall. They have also been seen in the tall pine trees near parking Lot D (Visitor Parking Lot). Please use caution when walking in these areas."
The hawks are likely redtailed hawks (pictured above), redshouldered hawks, or Cooper's hawks; those are the three most prevalent hawks found in the La Mirada-Coyote Hills area.
Any problems related to the hawks should be reported to Facilities Services at x4898.
