Cook School of ICS Restructures

CSICS adds a new Associate Dean and restructures its departments and leadership.

The Cook School of Intercultural Studies has reorganized itself into four distinct departments, and restructured its faculty and leadership accordingly.

"Each of the three new departments is chaired by a missiologist with at least 15 years field experience in an unreached people group, and many years of engagement with the Biola community at both the graduate and undergraduate levels," according to a press release from the school. "All four departments are engaged in Great Commission education and training, preparing graduate and undergraduate students for a variety of careers that will advance the Kingdom worldwide."

Dr. Doug Hayward, longtime ICS faculty member, was also announced as the school's first Associate Dean.

The departments will be:

Department of Intercultural Studies. Chair: Tom Steffen.
Degree Programs and Advisors: BA ICS (McMahan); M.A. Missions (Steffen); MDiv. Missions [in Talbot] (Sappington);  DMiss (Steffen).
Faculty members:  Bartlotti, Decker, McMahan, Sappington, Steffen.

Department of International Affairs and Intercultural Education. Chair: Doug Hayward.
Degree Programs and Advisors: MA ICS (Hayward); Ph.D. ICS (Hayward) Ph.D. Intl Education (Starcher).
Faculty members: Campbell, Greene, Hayward, McEwen, Starcher.

Department of Anthropology. Chair: Sue Russell.
Degree programs (BA & MA Anthropology) and Advisors: Archaeology and Physical Anthropology (Langenwalter); All others (Russell).
Faculty members: Langenwalter, Pittle, Russell.

Department of Applied Linguistics and TESOL. Chair: John Liang.
Degree Programs and Advisors:  MA Applied Linguistics (Lessard-Clouston); MA TESOL (Liang/Purgason); MA TESOL Online (Purgason); MALBL (Barber).
