Simulcast Event Oct. 22-23 Brings Cape Town Gathering to Biola
In Brief:
• Simulcast of Lausanne Conference, Friday night and Saturday in Sutherland Aud. Chapel credit available.
• Five chapels during week of Oct 25-29 also from Lausanne; taped segments mixed with Biola speakers.
• MWF chapels in Chase, Tu/Th chapels in Calvary Chapel.
On Oct. 16-25, Christian leaders from 200 countries will meet in South Africa for the highly anticipated Cape Town 2010 conference – the Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization – and Biola University is offering you the opportunity to participate from Southern California.
Billy Graham convened the first International Congress on World Evangelization in 1974 in Lausanne, Switzerland, with the second event taking place in Manila, Philippines, in 1989. The Lausanne Movement’s third global gathering is younger and more ethnically diverse than ever, and through the use of technology will make its Cape Town proceedings available to participants across the world. The event is meant to “re-stimulate the spirit of Lausanne represented in the Lausanne Covenant: to promote unity, humbleness in service, and a call to action for global evangelization.”
Several Biola faculty and staff will be attending the Cape Town conference – including President Barry Corey – but for those unable to make it to South Africa [9966 miles away], there will be an on-campus, two-day simulcast event: “Communicating Christ in a World of Competing Voices.”
In partnership with Transform L.A., a greater Los Angeles network of ministries passionate about transforming the city for Christ, Biola’s simulcast event will take place on campus (Sutherland Auditorium) on Friday night, Oct. 22 and all day Saturday, Oct. 23. The interactive event will allow the Biola community, along with local churches in Southern California, to experience the sights, sounds and ideas of the Cape Town gathering.
Guests are charged admission; there is no charge for Biola students.
