The Damage Done
Maybe it's the way you're wired. Maybe it's the pressure of your life. Whatever the reason, there's a growing number of us who are addicted to something, and it ripples out in ways you may never imagine. Let's talk about it, during Addiction Awareness Week, Nov 14-18.
In one sense, to be a fallen human is to be an addict. Since walking from the Garden, we all have been trying to fill a hole, to find something or someone who will give us the security, acceptance, purpose, and covering we need. Or at least something that will numb us from the craving of our needs.
Some addictions are respectable ("married to the job") while others are obviously self-destructive (substance abuse), but if they are addictions or compulsive attachments, then we are looking for what we need apart from God. Addiction Awareness Week will help us take a good look at addiction: what it is, how it happens, and how we can be free in Christ.
