Bye Bye Chapel CDs

At long last, Chapel (and conference) makeups are online. Here's what you need to know.

The Office of Chapel Accountability has announced that online Chapel makeups are now available. The makeups are located at http://studentlife.biola.edu/makeups.

Previously, students who needed to make up Chapels went to the Media Center in the Library, and purchased CD's with recorded Chapels from previous years. They also purchased blue 'makeup forms' which they completed after listening to the CD, then turned the forms in to Chapel Accountability.

Make-up CD's and Make-Up forms will no longer be available at the Media Center. The Media Center will continue to archive Chapel messages and sell CDs to those looking for a permanent record of a memorable Chapel.

The New Process

Chapel Accountability has released a detailed step-by-step description of the new process:

1. Download and print out the Chapel Makeup Form in PDF format (form available for download on the Chapel Makeup site).

2. Select a Chapel mp3 from the messages listed on the Chapel Makeup site.

3. Open or download the mp3 (your browser configuration decides this).

4. Listen conscientiously to the mp3 you downloaded.

5. Complete the Chapel/Conference Makeup Form. Your responses MUST be handwritten.

6. There is a $1-per-makeup processing fee (i.e., turning in 10 chapel makeups and 2 conference makeups = $12). Cash/Checks only. Checks payable to Biola University. Cash must be exact change.

7. Turn in Chapel Makeup Form & fee to Chapel Accountability, Student Services Bldg. You may also mail them [with payment] to:

Duedates and Requirements

Only Chapel recordings listed on the Chapel Makeup site may be used for makeups. The list of makeups was carefully selected by Chapel staff to reflect quality, diversity of topics, and coherence with the Chapel program's philosophy of spiritual formation.

Due dates for turning in Make-Up Forms were also announced. Make-ups for this semester are due by January 5, 2010.

All fulltime (12+ units) undergrad students are required to have 30 Chapel credits. No more than 15 of those may be credited using make-ups. Part-time (7-11 units) students are required to have 20 Chapel credits, with no more than 10 of those done via make-ups. Full information on the Chapel requirement is on the Chapel policy website.

Conference Makeups

Torrey Conference attendance must be made up by listening to mp3s of this year's Torrey conference. These recordings are also available on the Chapel Makeup site.
